You might be eligible to sponsor your Parents and Grandparents to immigrate to Canada and live with you permanently, if you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

The system for Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship was changed by IRCC in 2017 from first-come, first-served basis to a lottery system.

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident and residing in Canada.
  • Must meet certain income requirements and must also demonstrate the applicant has met the minimum necessary income level for three consecutive years. If the applicant is married or in a common-law relationship, the income of both persons can be included.
  • Must sign an undertaking to financially support the sponsored member for 20 years (starting when they become permanent residents).

Note that you can apply for Super Visa if you want your Parent or Grandparent to visit you in Canada and do not wish to settle here permanently.
